In the movie Merlin, we saw a power struggle for Power , love , and restoring the " New Ways " and " Old Ways " . The thought about abandonment was devastating to Queen Mab. Queen Mab had what she thought was a brilliant idea to prevent this from happening. Frick, her gnome servant was to help her complete this mission. Mab sought to reclaim her power of the " Old Ways " . She created a wizard named Merlin, which she believed would bring people back to her paganism. Little did she knew, that her plan was going to take a turn on her. Later in the movie, King Arthur was born and grew. Arthur's role in this power struggle was to be an apprentice to Merlin. Arthur was disturbed to see that his son, Mordred came into his life to take away the title Arthur had as king. With a rising issue, both Arthur and Mordred would go to battle to see whom must be king of Camelot. Arthur defeats Mordred and he deals Arthur with a fatal blow before Arthur is able to kill him. Queen Mab represented the " bad " and Merlin portrayed the " good ". In the end of this uneasy battle with Merlin and Queen Mab; Merlin prevailed. Merlin was very smart in his method of winning. First, he promised to only use his magic to defeat Mab. Second, he developed a loyal and honest reputation among the people of Avalon. Third, he used his magic with good intentions. Fourth, he helped a great king, Arthur. To rule Camelot. He influenced the people to " forget " about Queen Mab and the “Old Ways”. In one's opinion, Merlin had help from Arthur during that battle, between him and Mordred. With the help of Mordred, Queen Mab had a greater chance of getting believers in the " Old Ways ". Without Mordred in the picture there would be no chance of the " Old Ways " to be present, during that time with more people starting to believe in Christianity. Merlin made a very clever choice in how he defeated Mab . He didn't defeat her by the use of magic, he simply did it by doing the one thing that she was most terrified of. Being forgotten. During that time of defeating Queen Mab, Merlin paid no attention to her wishes as she begged him not to forget her. Merlin also prevailed because he didn't use magic to " kill " her, he easily used her fear against her.
