Recommended: Negativeeffects of bullying

Chris Crutcher wrote the book Whale Talk for a reason to entertain the reader and because he felt it would send a positive and negative message to the reader. The book has multiple messages such as, bullying, harassment, racism, violence, abuse, teamwork, caring for others and family values. The biggest message he sent was about family values ( how family can affect a child’s life in a positive and negative way ). The first topic in the story is language, how the language that Rich Marshal uses towards his step daughter Heidi effects her. On page 94, Georgia is a friend of Tjs who is also a psychologist. Georgia has Heidi in her office, what helps her students is to react what goes on at home. Tj helped Georgia by playing Heidis father Rich Marshal. Heidi is playing with her dolls and she screamed “GET THESE GODDAMN FUCK NIGGER KIDS OUT THE HOUSE!!!!.(she is repeating what her dad yelled at her one time). Chris Coughlin is a mentally retarded and he lost his brother who he was very close too. He wears his brothers jacket for a memory of his brother. On page 36 and 37 Mike Barbough was bullying Chris calling him a dummy and telling him he can't wear his brothers jacket because he did not earn it. Tj sticks up for Chris, he says “ If you call my friend a dummy one more time, i'm going to take your apart. I know your a hot shot football stud and you think nobody has your number, but even if I don't, we go at it. After he says that to Mike he tells Chris to join the swim team so he can earn a jacket and Mike wont give him shit about it anymore. On page 38 Mike gives Chris more shit and Tj sticks up for him again. Even know Tj is really not Chris's friend, Chris thinks of him as a brother. At the end of the story Chris gives Tj his brothers old jacket because he feels like Tj is his brother, therefore this is an example of family value in a positive

Cowperthwaite’s purpose is to persuade us into opening our eyes to the reality of what we are doing to killer whales by confining them in captivity. She invents an emotionally wrenching tone in order to transmit to the adult viewers that living in captivity may not be acceptable life for the whales. The film effectively showed that the whales should not be kept in captivity by giving the audience examples of their signs of aggression and displays of emotion. In the short story, “The Rip”, author Robert Drewe uses the idea of Sophie holding a jellyfish “at arms length” to display how she is becoming wary of her father, John, and is keeping him distanced from herself. he reassures her, as if he was trying to reassure himself that their relationship will not become an “anecdote”, but a reality.
