Heavy metal music was developed and introduced in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The music largely dominated the United States and the United Kingdom. The music has its roots in psychedelic rock and blues-rock, where the bands created thick, massive sounds. Additionally, the music had highly amplified distortion, emphatic beats, extended guitar solos and overall loudness characterized the music. In today`s culture, there are stereotypes in every setting, especially music. Stereotypes are ideas or images of something of what it is supposed to be depending the current culture. Music is everywhere and some people believe that the music we listen to, define who we are. This could be true but it is also unfair to assume we know somebody based on the music they are associated with. You can stereotype music based on a song or a whole genre.
It became clear that my music taste made me stick out like a sore thumb. A sense of elitism has arisen within musical genes, stemming from rock, punk, folk, etc. believing that they are valid and true forms of music, but that due to the way disco is produced, it fails to be a genre. However, disco is much more than a genre- it is a whole unique culture that supports many marginalized identities. As Dyer states, ‘disco is also kinds of dancing, club, fashion, film, etc. – in a word, a certain sensibility’ (Dyer 20).
Heavy metal is one of, if not the Best music genre of all time. Since the 1980's heavy metal and hard rock have sunk to the bottom of the music charts being replaced by genre's such as rap, or hip hop some of which can hardly be classified as music. Genres like rap are a disgrace to singers like Corey Taylor, Ivan Moody, or James Hetfield who use their natural talent and don't need auto tune to sound even remotely decent. Metal and Rock are some of the only actual Music genres left. Heavy Metal, and Rock are some of the last few genres that actually use real guitars and drums to make real music rather than the computer generated background noise in most if not all rap and hip hop.

Punks style of music is considered uneducated, raw, and rough because of the vessel in which it is administered. Kids with giant, dyed mohawks, leather jackets with studs, and screaming into a microphone was not the typical way to get your message out to the masses. However, their message of tolerance, police brutality, and corporate scams have all hit the headlines over the last decade which brings into question, is punk music uneducated, or was it considered uneducated because of the way the bands portrayed themselves?
The label of white trash even existing is seen to be appalling because of the former notion of white citizens being the alphas and that angered other White Americans(Eastman & Schrock pg 207). Stereotypes were and are a problem but Southern Rock & Roll musicians embraced theirs and appropriated with it because of capitalism. While no one deserves to be put into a category based on prejudice, White Americans made their stereotypes a positive while minorities struggled and still continue to struggle everyday due to stigmas placed on them. Different classes of White Americans were discriminatory against one another. If you were to portray this white trash image, you’d go against the grain so to speak and denounce their privilege.

En Masse, Rock and Roll has influenced various areas of the youth culture amid the 1960’s, dominating many areas of the world. The popularity and international outlook for rock music resulted in a compelling impact on society as Rock and Roll influenced everyday fashions, attitudes, and behaviors. Drawing on many different styles, this genre of music excited a worldwide generation of young listeners, while, at the same time, distressing musical, cultural, and social authorities. Presently, it is tough to fully understand the bitter criticism the new music generated in its entirety. Rock music gave shape to many different counter-cultural movements which engulfed the world.
Music nowadays is manufactured, over marketed, auto tuned garbage. It seems as though everything is becoming safe and easily digestible- almost like baby food. Now you may say that not all music is bad and yes, that is true. With that being said, there are plenty of really good underground bands out there, but my focus is on the mainstream junk that violates my ears every waking minute of the day, whether it’s on the TV or on the Radio. The music industry today requires no talent whatsoever and songs are just pumped out usually becoming over played and annoying.
Additionally, the artists used in their performances are educated and well-informed on what they do. The use of vulgar and inappropriate English often characterizes the environment that most Black minorities have in the United States (Wingood et al., 2003). Copying the style of dressing and the use of poor language structure is likely to result in low grades for teenagers. Parents are required to educate their children despite their interest in rap music. Children should also be educated on the negative perception that materialistic possessions are not a form of winning sexual advantages in the society.
Because the lyrics of many rap songs tell stories of an artist’s personal experience of their everyday lives growing up, urban youth can relate and connect to the lyrics because they see and experience very similar things. Listening to the artist’s lyrics about their own experiences can teach the listeners to not make stupid mistakes and if they continue to follow the right paths, they can achieve more and be successful like the rappers. Hip-Hop literacies can be applied in and outside of the classroom. Students can identify themselves through Hip-Hop culture. The Hip hop industry consists of mostly African American musicians. Since blacks are often alienated in society, their music seems to be too. The Homogeneity of Pop Music Pop music, or popular music, in the modern sense has been around in the United States for several decades, having begun around the late sixties, and has encompassed an assortment of genres throughout its progression. Here is an example: if somebody walks into a school and shoots someone, and they were a fan of pop music, nobody would think twice and just assume that the person was a deranged killer. If somebody else walked into another school and shot someone, and they happened to be a metal fan, then society would say that metal music drove that person to kill.
