Chapter One- Mexicans in the United States Chapter one outlined historic dates ranging from the 17th century to the 1900s and how these dates impacted Mexicans in the United States. Choosing to be a Mexican over American Today I feel more like a Mexican than anything else even though I was born in the united states. I may have papers and be American but hearing other ethnicities call my people immigrants and illegal makes me feel more like an immigrant myself. I feel this way because although I am considered an American I would much rather stand by my people and my culture. I would label myself as a Mexican-American, Latina, person of color, and as a minority. I describe myself as a Mexican-American because I was born and raised in Chicago and from Mexican descent.
The aspect that most appeals to me from SCU’s strategic vision is the strong emphasis on educating leaders. I want to become a role model and leader for my community. Becoming a leader is important to me because I feel that minorities, such as Latinos, are underrepresented in society. I have taken steps to become more of a leader by being more involved in my community through volunteering and becoming the 12th grade class president at my school. However, these tasks are mere baby steps towards a future where I am a voice for my people.
Cultural influences people on how to communicate with one another and its methods of communication from one culture to another. Culture plays a significant role in intercultural communication. Cultural identity is an element in a person’s life when one understands their own culture, leading to an understanding and appreciation of other cultures as well. It promotes a vital part of communication between people who come from different cultures. This paper will examine my Mexican American cultural background and how it affects my way of communicating with others.
They always look up towards me and will always see me working. My parents always tell me stories how they were raised and how they had little money but they continued to work hard and are blessed with all these things. Being hispanic automatically make anything think that you are a hard worker. They may not know where you came from but know you are willing to do anything at any cost. I plan to teach my future children what it really means to be from a hispanic culture and how they should go out and proudly tell the world who they really are.
I grew up in a two-parent household with my parents being married before they had children. My father has always been the one that provides finically, while my mother was the one who took care of my siblings and I throughout my childhood. Being that both of my parents were born in Mexico, I consider myself Mexican American. I am proud to be Mexican American. Culture plays a huge role in shaping your identity.
I’m the first generation of my family to be Mexican -American, but I have been introduced to the Mexican culture since I was born. I appreciate the difficulties my parents have faced to make me the person that I am today even though I wasn’t born in Mexico my parents have taught me the language and the culture which I’m so proud of being part of. For others being Hispanic is actually being born in any Latin American countries which is not true at all. Being Hispanic is much more than my cultural background it actually describes how much I appreciate my culture and how I get to experience things other people don’t. I fit into the Hispanic community through the experiencing the culture first hand ,participating in traditions and planning to include my culture in my future.
the article written by Claudio Sanchez, it is stated that researchers have determined that Mexican American toddlers do not develop as quickly as Anglo American children. Mexican American children have a delayed development in their ability to speak, read and the development of their senses. I can look back on how many times my parents read to me, engaged me in their conversations and interacted with me; and see the positive affects it had on me. However, my younger cousins did not have to same interaction with adults and only engaged with children of their own age. As a result, I see a difference in how much slower they are developing than I did.
Being Hispanic, family is very valuable to me. If there's any single thing that I can help my family with, I will gladly do so. I can remember clearly at the age of ten going with my mother to “help” her clean houses which was her job. Since her English wasn't the best, I would serve has her translator. Now I have helped her establish her own small house cleaning business.
Mexican. It seems like the only word I can use to clearly describe the world I come from would be Mexican. I was born in Mexico and lived there for a measle four years before my mother decided to follow my father’s footsteps and leave our home behind in search for better opportunities and come to America. We originally moved to Charlotte, North Carolina; during our time here we faced many hardships. When we arrived we did not know a lick of English; therefore, the rather white city we lived in judged us constantly whenever we spoke Spanish or made the effort to communicate with them in English.
In Mexico, my home country, I was able to successfully communicate with others and complete assignments just by the utilizing the Spanish language, but that was not the case on this side of the border. I had to learn a whole new language that seemed to be far different from my natal
They could ensure all employees are properly trained on diversity and anti-discrimination polices during orientation classes and on a semi-annual basis. Also, the company needs to ensure they are promoting and advancing diverse individuals for all positions in the company. This would show everyone that they committed to improving diversity at the company and their restaurants. How can they manage diversity throughout the organization?
Today’s most business primary concern is retaining workforce diversity. Recognizing the importance of diversity in the organization and effectively manage to ensure the organization and its valuable diverse employees are growing hand in hand. Rising of immigrants’ employment opportunity, joint venturing business globally has equally brought an opportunity for shared values, exchange of cultures and intelligence to widen the opportunity for business enterprise and also a platform for employees to reach target goal.
