Folklore is a collection of stories, beliefs, traditions, and customs passed down from generations within a culture or community. These stories usually involve mythical or supernatural details. They can teach lessons or entertain. Folklore can be made up of myths, songs, and legends.

It would lose its connection to ancestors and would lose stories and traditions with importance. Mexico would lose a big part of it history as folklore reflects values, beliefs, and customs.

Mexican folklore has a significant impact of the United States specifically the southwest where the Mexican population is larger. Mexican culture and folklore has been woven into American culture using stories, music, movies, and other things. It influences America through music and art. Mexican folklore has inspired many American writers.

La Llorona is a legend that translates to “The Weeping woman”. Its a story about a woman named Maria who drowned her kids in a river after her husband left her. Its believed that she now wanders the earth, crying, and searching for her children. Her cries are a sign of a impending doom.

La Llorona reflects the connection with Mexican culture and nature as the Myth is often associated with rivers and other bodies of water. La Llorona is based on a real historical event where a mentally ill women drowns her kids. They can be retold and reinterpreted that makes is hard to determine the original meaning and intent of the story. In most culture stories are told via oral tradition and each generation changes it a little bit this helps the belief that supernatural things and gods walk the earth and or exist.

In the fairytale “Alley of the kiss” Carlos and Ana fall in love but it is forbidden because there families are feuding. However they still decide to meet in a alleyway in the city. The alleyway is very narrow so they can kiss through a small window in one of the houses. Anas father catches Carlos trying to sneak into her window he is beaten and thrown out. Carlos is heart broken and decides to leave Guanajuato to start a new life. Years later he goes back and discovers Ana still lives in the same house and tries to see her again he is caught by her father again but he let them marry.

The story shows how dedicated they were to see each other and shows the importance of family and tradition. The tale shows how important family is and how you can put things aside for family and love. The alley of the kiss is based off a true story that took place in Guanajuato in the early 20th
