The Mexican War on Drugs, began in 2006 when the Mexican government launched a military campaign to eradicate drug cartels and their criminal activities. The competition for drug trafficking routes and The drug cartels smuggling large quantities of drugs, into the United States and other countries.The war has impacted the Mexican economy and people's lives along with the government escalating drug cartel violence.

Drug cartels are the primary source of violence in the Mexican Drug War. These organizations such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Beltrán-Leyva are some of the most prominent Organizations that contribute to distributing and selling illicit drugs, such as marijuana and cocaine, globally. As Showen in the Article “Drug Trafficking, Violence, and Mexico’s Economic Future, January 26, 2011, by Devon Duff and Jen Rygler” The cartels are also involved in other criminal activities, like human trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, shootings, and torturing of individuals. The Mexican government's attempts to suppress these activities have led to brutal confrontations between the cartels and the military, causing territorial wars between different cartels and carrying out other violent activities. …show more content…

However, some estimates suggest that the actual number may be much higher. In addition to the human toll, the drug war has also had significant economic and social impacts on Mexico.
