he Miami School District will be making many strategic moves in regards to the negotiation of the school boundaries for the upcoming year, due to the increasing enrollment. There are many factors to consider when creating the new school boundary lines. These factors will not only affect primary stakeholders such as staffs and students, but these changes will also affect Parents and the communities. The most important factor to consider is concerns in regards to the quality of education the children will receive. The quality of students education is the primary purpose for redistricting. The parents are considered stakeholders because they have issues with the redrawing of the school boundaries within the school district. The parents are concern about the changes because it may increase their travel time if they have to provide transportation for the children to the new school. There may increase to the parent's property value. And Parents feel that these changes may have social effects on their children. Staff also all has a stake in these changes. Staff includes members of the school board and every employee within each school in the district. Staff members are affected by the changes because they must even out the classrooms and make sure each school is not overcrowded. Negotiation Strategy When most people think of negotiations, they think about how formal the process can be, or a strategic way of getting the result that they want to achieve, at any cost, no matter what the outcome. The agreement should define the advantages of rezoning the schools, to the parents, and community. The Miami School District must be able to show that if class sizes are not evened out, students will ultimately suffer, and additional consequences will occur. The goal of the Miami school district is to provide quality education and develop long standing relationships with the parents. The school district will have to take a bilateral approach to the negotiation by having the parents involved. An analysis of parent concerns must be formed, and the school district must decide how to address these concerns appropriately. Quality of Education Many parents are very concern that their children may not get the same quality and standards of teaching when the new boundaries are selected. They feel that quality may not be at the same level as the school that they are currently attending. Also, some parents feel that the students may feel uprooted with all of the changes that will be happening to them.
