PROMETHEUS, A.K.A. “EQUALITY 7-2521” On Monday evening, Equality 7-2521 was caught being late to House of Street Sweepers after the last bell. He was taken to the House of Corrective Detention and beaten until he told Council where he had been, but never breathed a word of it. Four days later the guard was doing his nightly rounds, checking prisoners and cells, when he realized room 7 was empty. Equality 7-2521 had escaped!
Heidi De La Paz Professor Kaluzhski English 120 September 7, 2016 In the essay “ Show Me The Money”; Walter Mosley informs his readers about the uneven distribution of wealth in America and the discrimination that the working class has to face everyday. He states that it is wrong to look down on people and place judgment on them because of the amount of education and wealth they might have. Mosley goes on to tell us that we all deserve to live comfortable lives regardless of our social or economic class. In conclusion Mosley states that wealth should not define who we are and that we should all be treated equal that way we can all have equal opportunities to try to make it in this world.

Wealth, race, gender, and mental illness has torn society apart and lead to inequality. These major reasons for inequality has affected everyone in its path leading to major consequences as well as issues and problems. In China, a new found wealth has left the social classes more divided and issues are beginning to rise. Meanwhile in the U.S., wealth is destroying students and unequal views toward specific types of people are weakening the patriotic bond. To begin, there are many types and factors that play a part in inequality and the consequences of societies from it, but one of the main reasons and apparent factors is wealth.
In order to tackle economic inequality in the United States, we must first establish that it is a problem that needs to be solved. American citizens currently live in one of the wealthiest nations in the history of the world, a feat only possible by the economic systems that are currently in place. But who benefits from this wealth? When the top one tenth of one percent owns almost as much as the bottom ninety percent, it is clear that our current economic systems are benefitting the prolifically wealthy. This wealth inequality extends beyond income, but includes; quality of health care, education, and political representation.
Benjamin Disraeli once asserted that, “justice is truth in action.” This idea reflects that we all eventually receive compensation that is proportional to the quality of our actions. Book V of Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics expands upon and critically analyzes the societal and political elements that fall within this scheme. Today, our society can deliberate Disraeli’s statement in regards to the ever-growing economic inequality in the United States. The top 20% of Americans own 85% of the wealth, leaving our society to ask the question, is this imbalance just?
Economic inequality is a severe and growing problem that needs to be addressed and fixed. The United States is currently the richest country in history; however, that title seems only nominal when in reality, much of that wealth is controlled by a small 1% of the country’s population. Even with the major technological advancements and the rising productivity in the country, most Americans are left to work longer hours for lower wages.
