Explain why they are important (250 Words): The author of this document, Abbé Sieyès has highlighted some important points. What evidence in the document helps you know why it was written? Quote from the document (250 Words). The purpose of this document is to highlight the issues such as inequality in power, wealth and status, and to seek rectification. “The privileged orders fear the third order having equality of influence, and so they declare it to be unconstitutional.” Here we have an example of the powerful using their status to benefit them. The Third Estate was France at the time, without them the nation would be nothing. If equal power was had, the First Estate would be at a severe disadvantage. “That the number of its deputies be equal to that of the two privileged orders.” This is an important statement in the document. Sieyès calls for equal representation for the peoples. Rather than the current system of it going three ways, (each Estate getting a vote each) which usually worked in favor of the First and Second Estates, have equal votes for each member of the Estates “The plan of this work is quite simple. We have three questions to ask ourselves. 1. What is the Third Estate? – Everything. 2. What has it been so far in the political order? – Nothing. 3. What does it ask to be? – Something.”
