In the case Michael Peterson was being tried for the murder of his wife Kathleen. Peterson stated that he had found Kathleen at the bottom of the stairs bleeding badly after coming in from sitting at the pool side. He states that he thought that she had fallen down the stairs. According to investigators there was a huge pool of blood around Kathleen and on the staircase. If she had fallen down the stairs there shouldn’t have been as much blood. Kathleen was on the verge of being too drunk to drive and had taken a valium, this could have accounted for the blood being thin but it still does not add up to the amount that was on the floor. Given the information from other cases where someone had fallen down stairs drunk or not it also shows that the amount of Kathleen’s blood on the floor was too much. This evidence shows how Peterson could have been lying when he said she had fallen down the stairs. Another piece of evidence that goes against Peterson is the gashes found on the back of Kathleen’s head. The fall had not fractured or caused any lacerations but had just left gashes on her head. The stairs do not seem like a likely place to get those injuries unless she fell in a very unlikely manner. It is possibly to fall down stairs and get those gashes but it a very low possibility. Since the possibility is so low that she could get the exact gashes without breaking any bones puts her falling down the stairs unlikely. This leaves the option of her being struck with some object like a blow
