A teenager mother from Mississippi, Sabrina Butler was first known as the only female offender on Mississippi’s death row who was convicted for child abuse and the murder of her infant son. On the eve of April 11th, 1989, Sabrina Butler arrived at the hospital after midnight with a nine-month-old Walter Dean Butler, who was unresponsive at the scene. She claimed that she have found the baby when he unexpectedly stopped breathing, and after multiple failed attempts to resuscitate her son, she rushed to the emergency room and seek helps from medical professionals who are more knowledgeable on the matter. Sadly, her child was pounced died by the doctors following their visit to the hospital. The next day, while Sabrina was asked to give her statements at the local police station, the prosecutors arrested Sabrina under the charges of capital murder.
In 2005 she had a parole board hearing. They wanted her to express the wrong that she did but she still followed her heat and said she will not. She just kept begging honest and will not plead guilty for thirty years and she was released from prison on June 13,
To summarize this article, Tawana Brawley was an innocent 15-year-old girl that viciously been gang raped by six man one described as a cop. Her fragile body was found smeared with manure. Tawana later became a symbol, representing the unequal Justice for African Americans. Her story received many attention and was given lifelong donations that would benefit her in the future, but justice was never fought for this blameless girl. Nevertheless, When Rev. Al Sharpton, Alton Maddox Jr., and C. Vernon Mason took on her case that would be the beginning of the end to finding justice for Tawana.
As a young african american male, I’ve encountered many challenges and obstacles that has been tough to overcome for any male; especially male of color. In July of 2007 they found Jasmine Richardson guilty on 3 counts of murder. After that Jasmine was sentenced to 10 years in jail which is the maximum sentence someone her age can receive.

While the popular image of the Confederacy, and indeed the Secessionist Southern States as a whole, are looked at as containing white populations uniformly supportive of the Confederate cause, the reality is more complex. As portrayed in Victims: A True Story of the Civil War and Free State of Jones there existed sizable pockets of dissent among the populace whom the Confederate government failed to convert to the cause. In places like the mountains of western North Carolina and southeastern Mississippi this led to desertion, passive resistance, and even outright armed rebellion which sapped Confederate resources that were needed to continue to fight the Union. Though this anti-Confederate feeling would often translate into support for the Union, this was not based on some inherent loyalty to the Federal government. Specifically, the role, importance, and connection to risk and needs assessment of offenders in community based correction (Bayens, pg. 91). Phillip Garrido was charged with kidnapped and sexual assault of Jaycee Dugard over 18 years span (1991-2009). The aggravating details arise from the incident is that Garrido was under parole supervision as a sex offender since 1999. During those years, Garrido was hardly supervised due to improper classification as low-risk sex offender and failure of background research.

On September 21st, I attended an event featuring guest activist and author Susan Burton. The event started at 2:00pm as the room overflowed with people eager to hear Susan 's voice. There were people occupying every space of the rather small Whitsett room. Ms. Burton first talked about the traumas she suffered as a child and later, as an adult. Susan 's son was tragically ran over and killed by a police officer, which led to alcohol and drug abuse and her eventual incarceration.
Eduardo Mendieta constructs an adequate response to Angela Davis’ Are Prisons Obsolete? in his article, The Prison Contract and Surplus Punishment: On Angela Y. Davis’ Abolitionism. While Mendieta discusses the pioneering abolitionist efforts of Angela Davis, the author begins to analyze Davis’ anti-prison narrative, ultimately agreeing with Davis’ polarizing stance. Due to the fact Mendieta is so quick to begin analyzing Davis’ work, the article’s author inadvertently makes several assumptions about readers of his piece. For instance, Mendieta assumes that readers will automatically be familiar with Angela Davis.
This critical reflection will focus on the piece “African American Women, Mass Incarceration, and the Politics of Protection” by Kali Nicole Grass. Grass currently works at the University of Texas and Gross’ research focuses on black women’s experiences in the United States criminal justice system between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Mary Barnett’s trial in Chicago, the mother who left her six-month baby, Alison, alone for a week, while she was traveling to California without her baby, which caused the baby to die of dehydration. Before going to court, Mary Barnett went to see two psychiatrists, to study her and find out if she has mental problems that caused to leave Alison. After reading the case of Mary, I analyzed all the evidence and concluded that Mary Barnett is Innocent because she does not meet all the requirements to be a second-degree murder. The Jones family seems to support a state of equilibrium around abuse. After being sexually abused in her childhood, the homeostasis of the family was revolving around Precious being the recipient of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. At times that Precious tried to go against her mother’s orders or tried to stand up for herself, Mary returned the family to equilibrium by abusing her daughter. This was the cycle that developed after the Carl Jones raped Precious and saw her as a sexual subject to use for his desires. The Jones family is not exception to the family life cycle developed by McGolderick (1999).

In it a woman named Jenny Jones was sexually assaulted 20 years ago and has never received justice until now. Her rape was a cold hit along with several other victims. Jones’s rape case had gone cold because her rape kit had been left to gather dust and was deemed no longer recent enough to bother with.
