Evil Advertisements Taking Over America’s Children Parents should have control over the products and messages their kids are exposed to. On September 18, 2013, the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama gave a speech at the White House. She spoke about the junk food advertisements aimed at children. Mrs. Obama’s purpose was to persuade media, entertainment, and food and beverage companies to limit license characters promoting unhealthy foods and to instead advertise healthy food options. She communicated her ideas in a concerned and passionate tone in an effort to convey to the audience that they have the power to shape children’s tastes and desires. Mrs. Obama used personal stories, expert opinions, and her experience of motherhood to convince all members of her audience of her credibility. She is highly educated and is an American lawyer and writer. She has done a lot of work in order to try and improve the health of the children in the U.S. She has been working for five and a half years on this issue and even started a campaign called “Let’s Move.” Her speech demonstrated a strong sense of ethos. She is a mother who understands what it is like to have children and to not want them to grow up with health problems because of their food preferences. As a mom, she feels responsible to change the number of unhealthy food ads that children are exposed to on the television stations, websites, billboards, and gaming ads. Due to the fact she is the First Lady, she has the power to take
