Nancy Pelosi Nancy Pelosi, who was known as Nancy D’Alessandro in her early years, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 26, 1940. Pelosi grew up in a family who was very involved with politics as her father was a Congressman and the mayor of Baltimore for a decade. As Pelosi got older, she attended and graduated from Trinity College which was located in Washington D.C. During her years of college, Pelosi’s life changed as she met the love of her life, Paul Pelosi. Like many other couples, these two got married and decided to extend their family with five children.

Although some people might argue that Shirley Chisholm does not demonstrate leadership qualities, a closer examination proves that the former congresswoman was a strong leader because of her independence, perseverance,and willingness to take risks. Shirley Chisholm is a great leader because she blazed a trail by being the first African American Congresswoman. For example, “Chisholm indulged her maverick nature in a spectacular gesture. She became the first black woman to run for president” (Morin pg1).This proves that she was the first black individual in her field to run for president so this makes her a trailblazer because all leaders should possess this for the reason that no leader can lead from behind.
During the time of the salem witch trials and the late 1980’s-1990’s during baseball's Steroid Era were two different things, but they also had one thing in common the hysteria that was brought by both of these. In the witch trials there were many of people dying and in baseball there was various amounts of people getting suspended and their chances at the hall of fame forever destroyed. Many of people know about the Salem Witch Trials as one of the most moments and years of hysteria. During this time there were many of people wrongly executed. During the 1950’s a man wrote a book called The Crucible.

Carly Fiorina is an American Republican politician who is a running candidate for presidency in the 2016 United States Presidential election. She was born on September 6, 1954 in Austin, Texas. Her father was involved in the government and he served as a Deputy U.S. Attorney General and a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Fiorina attended many schools including Channing School in London which she attended when she was younger, and five high schools, Charles E. Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina being the one she graduated from. She attended college at Stanford where she received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and medieval history in 1976.

Winfrey came from a lower class family, being raised by just her mother in the city of Milwaukee, where she grew up throughout her childhood ( britannica ). A few months after Oprah Gail Winfrey was born, her mother abandoned her to be about to travel, her grandmother, Hatti Mae Le raised her as her own daughter after her mother’s absences. Throughout her childhood, she lived in a terrible environment, but thanks to her grandmother she was able to become the women she is today, she taught her how to read and write. To begin, economic status affected the characters in The Great Gatsby. The characters are distinguished by their wealth and where they live. East Egg reflects high class society or “old money”, and the people of West Egg are wealthy and refer to “new money”. Social status and wealth defines a character and their happiness. F. Nelson Mandela is important to us because he was the first democratically elected president of South Africa, after being imprisoned for 27 years, and overcoming the obstacles that inspired the world. Nelson Mandela was born Rolihlahla Mandela on July 18, 1918, in Mvezo, on the banks of the Mbashe River in Transkei, South Africa. He was later named Nelson when he entered school. Nelson was supposed to be raised and trained to be an advisor and chief one day. As chief, Gadla, Mandela’s father, had four wives, which was okay for their culture.
I recently had the privilege of listening to Leymah Gbowee, from Liberia, Africa, give a talk on her peace and female activism efforts in West Africa. Gbowee is a very down to earth soul. She started her talk off asking if she should sit or stand and decided to sit and, in her words, “Rest my aching bones and let this be a conversation.” Leymah was born in Monrovia, Liberia and grew up as a child and young woman living with her parents and sisters when the 1st Liberian Civil War broke out. She started out as a trauma counselor treating child soldiers and went on to social work school to become a Social Worker.
