The Misnamed Middle Ages The Medieval Era was known for many different types of harrowing and discontent times, which earned it the nickname The Dark Ages. The Medieval Era was the year 476 AD to 1500 A.D. Most scholars deemed it as a negative point in history, but many important and interesting events made the Medieval Era something to remember. It were filled with strong Christianity and trade and accounting industries that started the development of accounting firms in the twenty-first century. The revolutionary occurrences cancelled out the fall of Rome, and other disappointing events. The Dark Ages is not an accurate name for the Medieval Period as it was filled with many fascinating discoveries and revolutionary parts of history. Most people lived on a manor, which consisted of the castle, the church, the village, and the surrounding farmland. Castles were enormous and made of stone. Manor Houses were built like small castles. Some entrance ways were more elaborate than the others, as they showed how important someone was. Peasant homes were usually one room huts, made of logs held together with mud with thatched roofs. Peasant homes had little furniture, at the most a three-legged stool and beds that were crafted from leather covered in straw. Along each narrow street, there were little shops. Store owners lived above their shops, which were made of wood with thatched roofs. The store owners were constantly worried about fire spreading through the buildings. The monks lived together in the monasteries; the nuns lived in convents and the Abbeys, which were buildings occupied by both monks or nuns, were the size of castles (Kellogg). These homes revolutionized the homes we live in today, giving our housing lifestyle a structure to base
