Dorothea Orem’s self-care deficit nursing theory is one such nursing theory that has been reworked to take into account the changes in our world, while still maintaining the initial framework (Taylor & Renpenning, 2011). Purpose of Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory Dorothea Orem (as cited in Taylor & Renpenning, 2011) described her purpose in formalizing the Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory as a way of defining the structure of nursing and explaining knowledge, rules and roles of nursing. Orem was attempting to answer the question of why, when and how a nurse is needed in the care of a patient (Smith & Parker, 2015). According to Younas (2017), self-care deficit nursing theory is also a practical effort to delineate the patient role along with that of the nurse.
I have attended Front Range Community College for the past 3 years. Before attending this school, I had no purpose and no direction in life. The prime reason for not attending college was out of fear of failure. I had previously registered with the school in 2010, but did not register for any courses. In the same year, I had been diagnosed with PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder), and had sought help with a local Veterans Affair clinic.
Christian nurses are given the unique ability to provide compassionate and spiritual care to a variety of patients. The purpose of this paper is to explain my definition of nursing as a caring art, describe how Christian faith impacts caring, describe my personal philosophy of nursing while identifying my own personal values and beliefs, and discus how my beliefs impact my nursing practice. To me, nursing as an art of caring, is defined as caring for the whole person, building meaningful relationships, and providing compassionate care. Holistic nursing care involves healing a person physically, emotionally, and spiritually. According to Patricia Benner, one of the nursing theorists, the five-step nursing model determines excellence, and power in clinical nursing practice. Dr. Patricia initially introduced the concept that expert nurses develop intellectual skills and patients understanding through a sound and stable educational base in addition to work experience. The theory is one of the essential frameworks for assessing the crucial nurse needs at the various level of professional development (Bezuidenhouk, 1982). Most importantly the argument does not include an emphasis on how to be a nurse instead it emphasizes on how nurses acquire relevant knowledge through experience and hard work. The idea of giving foreign aid to those in need may seem noble at glance. Yet, if we look deeper into the issue and observe the outcome, what we discover may not exactly be a positive impact on the recipient countries. An efficient aid-giving program requires more than just good intentions. It would be hard to argue that foreign aid has not done any good, when there are also plenty of cases where foreign aid has been used efficiently. However, as that is rather an exception than a rule, in this essay I will look at the cons of foreign aid claiming that it is actually not fulfilling it’s purpose.
