Registered nurses must abide by the standards of conduct established by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), and the NMBA Code of Conduct for Nurses. Three aspects of the professional standards expected of a registered nurse—critical thinking, ethical nursing practice, and professional behaviour—will be covered in this essay.
Under the 2016 NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice, the ability to think critically is vital for nurses because it helps them make informed decisions and provide patients with safe, effective care.
