Introduction A form of literature using a series of techniques, Poetry evokes meaning like no other form of writing. Poetry in Australia seeks to recall stories and truths through its richness and diversity. The subject of belonging by means of migration is prominent in many poetic works, but none more so than in the pieces created by Bruce Dawe and Peter Skrzynecki. Exploring the same theme, the poems are written from opposite perspectives.
In the early to late 1920’s the U.S. was struggling with many prejudices, immigration problems and flaws within the judicial system. A combination of these things contributed to Sacco and Vanzetti’s case which towards the end, gained international exposure and popularity. Both men were Italian immigrants who came to the U.S. in their youth in search of work and a better life. Sacco was no stranger to hard work and when he came to the U.S. nothing changed. He worked his way up so that he had a family, made a decent living and had good savings.

The transient process of Belonging emerges from connections made by individuals with people, places and the larger social world. It is these connections that influence our identity and the search for meaning in our lives, ultimately determining our course of action. A sense of belonging can be hindered through the lack of relationships and experiences, negatively resulting in alienation and disconnection. Peter Skryznecki's eloquent poems Migrant Hostel and Feliks Skryznecki accentuate how the urge to be affiliated with a family, culture or place can only be cultivated through positive connections and familiarities, yet when these factors are lacking, we are left with the feelings of oppression and the need for assimilation.
Experiences of an immigrant were different back then but there are also similarities between the time periods. The number of immigrants have been similar between the years. This is explaining that the numbers of immigrants entering U.S haven 't changed a lot during the years, numbers have been similar. Immigrants have been learning the English language faster than previously.
Substance abuse can cause liver, kidney, intestinal, esophagus, and lung damage. How can the youth receive assistance before they commit any criminal activity? In North Carolina there are numerous ways to receive help. There is a program called Patient Assistance which helps low income, uninsured patients, and receiving medications to help live with their mental health disorders. Another place to receive help with mental health is Carolina Partners in Mental Healthcare, in Raleigh, and Durham.
Homeless youth are always dealing with poor nutrition, victimization, substance use, and abuse. Unfortunately the services provided are very limited and cannot help a huge chunk of the homeless youth. Homeless youth experience more substance abuse and drug addiction than non-homeless youth, this causes them to be mentally unstable and unable to be a functioning member of society. There are many temporary services provided such as shelters, drop-ins, meal programs, literacy improvements, and counselling programs; although these are available and there to help the youth, they are all flawed in their own ways. What the government does not take into consideration is the long term solutions to put youth in poverty to an end.
Reflecting on my development as a first-generation immigrant, I can attribute a large portion of my characteristics and aspirations to my experiences growing up and to the role model whom I have admired, my mother.
