I feel Mike Hale’s intentions with “Consigning Reality to Ghost,” was to inform the average cable viewer that paranormal investigation shows are fake and a waste of time. The average cable viewer is seen as the intended audience, because Hale writes “viewers are free to make up their own minds, as they always have been.” (Hale) Furthermore, Hale is hinting to the reader (average cable viewer) that they can choose to agree or disagree with his opinion. Hale simply despises paranormal reality shows and believes they are staged, for popularity, and just a fad. Hale bluntly says that paranormal shows are staged and even mocks the plot of them. “They venture inside with the tools of their trade: K2 meters to detect electromagnetic fields, parabolic dishes to capture the faintest noises, night-vision lenses to penetrate the darkness.
