Having a career in Anti-Terror means your job focuses on national security in one way or another. The national security of the United States is dependent on a strong cyber infrastructure. The report “The Decision to Attack: Military and Intelligence Cyber Decision-Making” by Aaron Franklin Brantley talks about the importance of cyber infrastructure. On page 38 Brantley states “Cyber is important because it forms a modern infrastructure beneath the pillars supporting national security.” Brantley later explains on the same page why cyber infrastructure has affected the pillars supporting national security. “With each new connection the development of the network increases in value and our relationship to the connection becomes second nature. …show more content…
Page 3 of this report says “This approach has resulted in the identification of six sometimes overlapping categories: propaganda (including recruitment, radicalization and incitement to terrorism); financing; training; planning (including through secret communication and open-source information); execution; and cyberattacks”. Due to worldwide connections being easier than ever to make it has given terrorists more tools to aide them. Terrorists are able to spread misinformation, and propaganda through the Internet freely. This propaganda can only be censored if it has sexually explicit content, or causes security concerns. Propaganda is subjective so it’s protected by the 1st amendment in the US. People working in counter terror have to be able to closely monitor the actions of terrorist propaganda while respecting their rights. Counter Terrorists also have jobs where they have to trace funds of terrorist organizations. “Making the Nation Safer: The Role of Science and Technology in Countering Terrorism” by the National Research Council talks about the need for cyber antiterror jobs. On Page 285 says “Attacks on information technology can amplify the impact of physical attacks and diminish the effectiveness of emergency responses. Furthermore, reliance on the Internet as the primary networking entity means that severe damage through cyberattacks is more likely.” So students looking for jobs in the anti-terror field won’t have to worry about there being less jobs. What they will have to worry about is the competition to get the job. Qualifications vary depending on what type of job you get in Anti-Terror but they all require advanced knowledge. College is a requirement to work in the Anti-Terror field, and they look for candidates with the top GPAs. Knowing multiple languages is preferred in anti-terror due to it containing global threats. Being able to write well is a key trait that you need in the anti-terror field. Reports are key for whatever you do in anti-terror.
