In this essay we will discuss the true definition of military bearing and professionalism as well as what it looks like among the ranks of the United States Army. Through out the years the Army has been known for its Soldiers and the way they carry themselves. Soldiers volunteer to sign on the dotted line and make the great sacrifice, if necessary, for their country. Along with this commitment they also agreed to living their lives with military bearing and professionalism. From kids of young ages to adults, people look up to Soldiers and put them on a pedestal above the average civilian. It is important to remain at this elevated level of respect of the people and practice good military bearing and professionalism.

A Soldier with good bearing often is professional, as well as a Soldier that has good professionalism often practices good bearing. One group of Soldiers that truly practice bearing and professionalism is the United States Army Drill Sergeant. In the Drill Sergeant Creed, it says, “I will insist that each Soldier meets and maintains the Army’s standards of military bearing and courtesy.” (3) Drill Sergeants live their lives by the creed and uphold the Army standard by proving and showing newly enlisted Soldiers the way, a Soldier should present themselves. A Soldier that, lives by the Army values, shows bearing and professionalism would know to do the right thing even at times when no one is watching them. Sometimes it is hard to do the right thing in life. It is a Soldiers duty to think on their own and follow what the Army says is right. If someone were to turn on the news, they would see information about rising tension overseas and problems in other countries. The United States Army has been a force for helping other nations for decades. Our presence all over the world in other countries does not go unseen. This is why it is important even when not in country to practice bearing and professionalism. Other countries often base their knowledge of the United States off what they see and hear about Soldiers in their country.
