The Life of Milton Hershey
Do you love chocolate? Most of us do. Do you ever wonder where it came from or who invented it? In this paper, I will tell you how Milton Hershey became the greatest chocolatier and how he influenced the chocolate we eat today.
Milton Hershey was born September 13th, 1857. He was to born to Fanny Snavely Hershey and Henry Hershey in the town of Derry Township Pennsylvania. At the age of 14, Milton Hershey decided to quit school. His mother was ok with that, as she thought it was time for Milton to get a job.

Milton never married again, and he kept pictures of his beloved wife in every room. Milton missed Kitty so much. In Kitty’s memory he did something amazing in total secret. In 1918, Milton gave all his stock in the Hershey Chocolate Company to the school. Milton did this to make certain that the school would continue long after he passed. Milton made one rule for his gift, the money that he gave had to be used for the students and the school. The school is now worth more that most universities in America. The school had so much money that they were able to build a hospital. They named it the The Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Milton spent the rest of his life watching over the school. He treated the boys like his own sons. Milton would visit them even when they had moved to new homes and the boys would also go to Milton’s house for tea. Milton Hershey was known for his kindness and love for the kids and the fact that he loved to share his wealth with his employees and the town of Hershey.
The town of Hershey thrived. They had a train, a huge amusement park and there were several other new buildings in town. Milton built a huge arena for ice hockey. The deluxe Hotel Hershey was completed. All the while, Hershey chocolate bars were still only a nickel, which meant everyone was still able to afford them. While the US was in the great depression, the Hershey company and the town of Hershey stay strong and was able to survive.
