What are rhetorical devices? How can they be used? In the poem “Tuesday 9:00 AM” Denver Butson writes about how people can not say what is on their mind. He can convey this through the use of figurative language. The figurative language in the poem is used to express the inner conflicts of each character and the addition of details, construct the theme.
In this article, I sensed some rhetorical strategies used. For example, Carr explains that he wasn 't the only one experiencing the problem of not being able to concentrate on his readings. His acquaintances, impressive bloggers, and friends also claims to have the literary types—struggles for fighting to stay focused on long pieces of writings. However, just proving this point won’t solve anything, so Carr points out rhetorical techniques like logos.

The term rhetoric is explained as being influential; teachers in particular are described to make use of rhetoric means to encourage their students into learning. Nevertheless, the rhetoric term has been under discussion over the years. I had a lot of repetition because many of the examples I used demonstrated more than one type of appeal. This poem inspires people and moves them to the point to where they can find a personal connection to the poem itself and to the writer. Not only does it hold emotional value for those who were victimized and those whose family were victimized by the laws of segregation, but the poem is also celebrated for its complexity. The poem uses many techniques to appeal to the reader.
In “The Trouble with Poetry”, and “Introduction to Poetry” Billy Collins focuses on the issue of forced inspiration, and the lack of appreciation readers, and aspiring poets have for the feel of poetry. In “Introduction to Poetry”, Collins mentions that some poetry enthusiasts try too hard to find the meaning of a poem; to try and decipher it like some ancient hieroglyphics, that they forget that poetry is not an essay and does not necessarily have to have a distinct message. In stanza’s seven and eight, the speaker states that poetry should be felt, and that what one poem means to a group of people could have a completely different effect on another group. In stanza eight “Feel the walls” is the speaker’s ways of saying that one should feel a poem and let the poem speak to them, instead of searching for what they believe to be its true meaning.
The poem “Ithaka” by C. P. Cavafy illustrates Foster’s quest theory by using metaphors. Throughout the poem there are several metaphors but overall the whole poem is a metaphor all in itself. The speaker begins to tell you right as the poem begins, “Laistrygonians, Cyclops, angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them: you’ll never find things like that on your way as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,as long as a rare excitement stirs your spirit and your body.” The Laistrygonians, Cyclops, and angry Poseidon are obstacles that will cross your path, don’t let them get in your way. It is comparing these three terrifying things to the obstacles you come across everyday and how you can’t let them destroy you.
The Romantic period believed that emotion was a form of intelligence, and art was a path to transcendence. Imagination acts as a source of creativity, and allows us to see what is not immediately apparent. The Romantics believed that we could discover the imagination in nature, which often resulted in a harmony of the two. However, there are times when nature and imagination are in conflict with each other; for example, when imagination acts as an illusion, and distracts us from confronting the issue.
