There is a huge emphasis in academia to maintain a high grade point average. Encouragement of this comes from not only, teachers, counselors, and administrators, but also from other students as well as parents. This is a major source of stress and anxiety amongst students. Being “tied to a GPA” is a common saying amongst students. Furthermore, students with scholarships have an added source of pressure; due to the GPA requirements and standards that have to be maintained in order to receive these scholarships.
