One of the most important questions in the concept of minimum wage is who does it affect? If one really digs deep into the demographics of minimum wage, realizes who is affected by it the most, and what it has done to help people, it is easy to come to the conclusion that minimum wage is justified. To be able build a solid profile for the average person on minimum wage, we have to look at a few statistics. First off, 50% of minimum wage workers are between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five, the other half being all other ages. It is easy to determine that a large percent of minimum wage workers are young. Between male and females, minimum wage earners are evenly split, and only 3% of both white and black hourly workers earned only minimum wage. Non married workers are more normal than married workers at minimum wage, and also three fifths of workers paid minimum wage were in service and restaurant jobs. After reading this these statistics, it is easy to picture your average minimum wage workers.

These workers made up a much larger majority of the workforce, composing almost 21 million people compared to the amount calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) which stated that only a little over two million individuals make minimum wage or below. These individuals could possibly be even more relevant to this argument, seeing as these are the workers that would most likely be most impacted. Without a minimum wage to force an employer to fairly compensate its employees fairly, most everyone would experience a wage decrease of some kind, resulting in a large increase in government assistance necessary to appease those that would no longer be able to afford to make ends
