A big problem in our Modern Society today are the misconceptions and stereotypes that unfortunately have an enormous impact on a community. A stereotype is a generalization about a group of people, in which certain traits cling to all members, regardless of actual individual variation. Stereotypes create a misconception of how people are and how those individuals are in their social lives. Misconceptions are people’s point of view or opinions, they do not go based on facts. Every individual, young or old, is labeled either with a negative or positive perspective or point of view. By stereotyping, individuals infer that a person has a wide range of characteristics and abilities assumed of that group. Stereotypes affect people’s social lives, emotions, and how those individuals interact with the environment. As humans, people assign objects and individuals into categories to organize the environment. Scientists believe that stereotypes serve a purpose because clustering people into groups with a variety of expected traits help us navigate the world without being overwhelmed by information. Fashionistas are often misjudged by their appearance which lead to stereotypes and misconceptions, however in reality fashion is all about self expression, showing the person’s unique personality, and aren’t what people portray them to be.
