Often, she does not need to refer to the chart, but she does ask for it when she gets stuck. We are continuing to practice the facts in a variety of ways. Ashley is more and more accurate with fact retrieval. This year, Ashley seems to be getting less math homework. She is so deprived of communication that she can not hold a relationship with a friend for more than a couple months. In Romeo and Juliet, the play creates a lot of different perspectives towards it. There are a handful of people who believe Romeo and Juliet contains a plot that is senseless. Alyssa Rosenberg is one of those individuals. She shares her theory towards the play by creating the article, “Romeo and Juliet, Is a Terrible Play, and David Leveaux Can’t Change That”. She questions the play’s plot by saying,“Why are the families fighting?
I am the same way when it comes to taking test. The advice I would give to her would be try different learning patterns, what works for one assignment might not work for another. Although Lady Capulet is an adult, she is still a woman in Shakespearean time and is portrayed as powerless. When Juliet is begging her to not make her marry Paris, claiming to love Romeo and threatening suicide, she tells Capulet, her husband, that she does not want to marry Paris. When Capulet is belittling Juliet, calling her worthless and threatening to strike her in front of Lady Capulet, she does not intervene. This is not because Lady Capulet does not care, but because she cannot go against her husband’s wishes since she is a woman. Lady Capulet responds to Juliet’s grovelling with “Talk not to me, for I’ll not speak a word./ Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee.”
In his play, Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare has his characters participate in the practice of deception and dishonesty of others - after all, the foundation of Shakespeare’s play resides within a lie. One of the major deceptions in the play is executed by the Illyrian countess, Olivia, as she repeatedly claims to need solitude to mourn her brother’s death in order to avoid Duke Orsino and his obsession towards her. This deception contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole by adding the thematic message, deception and dishonesty is sometimes the better option when it comes to love. From the beginning of the play, Olivia is introduced as the grieving countess that has recently lost a brother.
William Shakespeare’s works, written primarily from the late eighteen hundreds to the very early sixteen hundreds, have long been the subject of academic debates and analysis. Potent with double entendres, metaphors, and social commentary, it is easy to apply queer theory to Shakespeare’s plays, notably Twelfth Night, written in 1601. Though Twelfth Night’s ending pushes its characters into traditional heterosexual romances and binary gender roles to satisfy the genre and placate conservative Elizabethan audiences, the characters in the comedy defy tradition by exploring homosexual love and expression of gender. The most apparent homosexual themes are present in the relationship between Antonio and Sebastian.
“Grab them by the p***y,” states our now 45th president Donald Trump. In a lewd conversation, back in 2011, Trump degrades women by treating them unfairly and as objects. For a long period of time, women have not been held to the same standard as men, which is still prevalent in today’s society. In the sixteenth century, women are not seen as equal as men. Women were widely viewed as matriarchs of the domestic household, who were meek and submissive.
Shakespeare’s renowned play Twelfth Night centers around love, both in platonic and romantic instances. Characters display elements of self, brotherly, amorous, and friendly love towards one another; however, of the relationships portrayed, the strongest ones are those between men. In contrast, relationships between men and women lack depth and sincerity due to the lapse of communication between the opposing genders. Men are able to express their feelings to one another more freely, which gives their bonds strength that heterosexual relationships fail to display.
In Twelfth Night, Viola and Olivia are the central characters to the play’s plot. Each are young women that take approaches to dealing with the people around them, which are mainly men. There is much trickery that goes on in Twelfth Night, but the ending is for the most part happy. Viola marries Orsino and Olivia marries Sebastian, but the events leading up to this are more or less chaotic. Ultimately, I argue that while Olivia uses her higher social status in order to maintain control of herself and others, Viola resorts to trickery in order to bring about her desires.
Numerous events and conflicts from Twelfth Night are dependant on Viola’s disguise, as she is caught in between Olivia and Orsino’s affection due to her disguise. In the beginning of the play, she dresses up as a male in order to conceal her identity and to get a job at Orsino’s court. In doing so, she is able to gain more of his trust than she would have if she was a female. By disguising herself as a man Viola is able attract his attention and appreciation to ultimately prove her worth to him as a woman. Moreover, Viola's disguise also allows Orsino to respect her intelligence which causes her to win his love.
