Proverbs 16:9 states, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps,” I have found that within my life to this point, I can only focus on the beginning of this passage. I made the decision to believe that I plan my own path in life and that God would not have any part of however I want to go about living my own life. I’d say “free will”, that it is my decision, my own destiny, and no one elses. See, I have taken upon the state of mind that “I am the way, the truth, and I am going to live my life the way that I see fit”. If my life is great why do I even need God in the first place? For the first part of this conversation I will reference Genesis 1. Throughout the whole chapter of the God fabricates the Earth in 7 days by through his own labor. By the closing of the 6th day after God had created all things Genesis 1:31 states, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…”. Fast forward to the proceeding chapter when God decides to make Mankind, beginning with Adam and Eve. God created man in his own image, in the image of God. Now if God worked to create the world, the universe, and everything in it, and if we were designed within his image would we start to inherit some of his traits? The point being made here is that God designed us to work. Humans are made for work. We are designed in the likeness of God and because of that we are laborers by our inner nature from how we reflect what God designed us to be. Laziness was not something that we were designed with, it was a sin that we acquired on our own time. So, why should God be incorporated into our workplace? Duke Barret, PhD holder and professor at Denver Seminary, answers this question the best by saying, “Part of our purpose as humans, created in God’s image, is to work.
