Mob Mentality: That escalated quickly… The website Investopedia defined mob mentality as “a form mentality characterized by a lack of individual decision-making or thoughtfulness, causing people to think and act in the same way as the majority of those around them”(Investopedia). Mob mentality usage was prominent in the world's history and is still being used today. In this essay mob mentality will be shown to you in a form of steps. The first example of mob mentality will be on the salem witch trials. The next will be on the McCarthy trials. In both these instances there are ways mob mentality slowly but surely ruined trust and even lives. In the spring of 1692 there was a little town in massachusetts named Salem. There were consequences for practicing witchcraft that ranged from whipping to death. Abbigail was later accused but to get out of punishment she said this: “I want to open myself! . . . I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced for the Devil; I saw him, I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss His hand. I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the Devil!”(Miller) Abigail and her bandwagon of evil began accusing other innocent people. Many people joined in and in the end mob mentality was a very large factor. The steps to created to form mob mentality in this scenario is: First there was an affair where jealousy took place. Second someone gets angry and makes a plan to get revenge. Third an event takes place that forms mistrust in a group or a person. Lastly there is pointing of fingers. No one takes ownership of their mistakes so it ends up becoming one large blame
