Moby Dick a novel about a schoolteacher by the name of Ishmael, who signs himself up for a whaling voyage. He believes that the open waters and sailor’s lifestyle could lift the depressing mood he was experiencing at his home and occupation. When he was travelling to find a ship to sail on in Nantucket, he stays in an inn where he meets a fellow whaler named Queequeg, who is a “dark complexioned savage” as Ishmael would have described him as. However, Ishmael and Queequeg bond rather quickly and decide to sign up for a three year voyage on the Pequod, on the hunt for sperm whales. Once Ishmael and Queequeg board the Pequod, they meet their fellow shipmates: Starbuck, Stubb, Flask, Tashtego and Daggoo. However, they do not meet the captain of the Pequod, Captain Ahab; he does not show himself to his crew yet. …show more content…

This is where the famous white whale, Moby Dick, is said to reside. Starbuck warns the rest of the crew of bad omens that had cropped up on their journey such as: all the Pequod’s navigational instruments breaking, a typhoon tries to push the Pequod backward away from the white whale and their encounters with other ships that had already lost crew members to the white whale. Captain Ahab ignores these signs and blinded by revenge, the Pequod continues to sail toward Moby Dick. The crazed Captain Ahab then decides to christen a specially forged harpoon that he would use to slay the white whale by having it steeped in human blood. Ahab finally spots Moby Dick and they begin a three day pursuit of the whale, Ahab sends whaleboats after the whale, regardless of the previous results that the other boats attained. All the whaleboats are wrecked by the whale, and on the final day of the chase, the whale decides to attack the Pequod
