When people are put into extreme situations, they are forced to do everything necessary to survive. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is stranded in the middle of the Caribbean on Ship-Trap Island. On the island, Rainsford is forced to play General Zaroff’s game.
I see a perspective of the quotation, "Character is what you are in the dark.", by Dwight Lyman Moody in the short story, "Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. This quotation gives the meaning that you see the real characteristic of a character when they are alone, and no one else is around to see what they are doing or how they are acting. You can see some examples of this perspective in the short story with characters General Zaroff and Rainsford. For instance, when speaking with Rainsford about hunting The General states, "It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason." (Connell P.12).

For example, the dangerous crags surrounding the island as well as the location of the island prevent the victims from leaving. The calm sea prevents Rainsford from getting crushed against the giant crags when he arrives on the island. General Zaroff could have been discovered easily, but the threatening boulders surrounding the island were preventing people from venturing onto the island . The location of the island makes it hard for Rainsford to survive because he’s trapped.

In the play Appropriate that was put on at Colorado State University, is a play about the Lafayette's, an dysfunctional family that gets mixed up in racial situation. The purpose of putting on this play was to show how with all the racial tension going on around the world, everyone has their only views on what happens. This also showed how being put in to situation, like the Lafayette’s were put in, make it a lot harder to deal with. During the play they show how different people look and react are racism. The director was showing how different nationalities and religions, try to deal with situation even if it all blows up.
The lighting played a very important role in the play “ The Royale”. At times it, replaced props that were needed on stage. It was used to enhance certain moments that were crucial for the viewer to understand and connect to the plot and certain scenes. For example, the blue light that signaled that Jay was training on his own, and also the spotlight as he made his final strike when he fought fish at the beginning of the play, or to symbolize the camera flashes from the press.
In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” Sanger Rainsford is forced to test his survival skills while he is intensely hunted by an experienced war general named General Zaroff. In this story, Rainsford exhibits some very helpful characteristics like his resourcefulness, his strategic planning, and his ability to reason. As a result of Rainsford’s questioning the validity of General Zaroff’s hunting methods, he ended up playing in the game. Although I believe Rainsford is a very helpful, interesting, and dynamic character, at the end of the story, he must give up his own personal morals to win the game.
Hunters believe animals are not capable of reasoning and they see them as something lesser than humans. Throughout time, these positions can change. This particular story is a strong example of ethics through the use of right and wrong during the war.
