Heroes Are Everywhere [1] Could you imagine a world with Heroes all around you? Just think about it; the person standing right next to you has saved or inspired at least one life whether you know it or not. The heroes that were featured on CNN heroes are people who have made a change in many peoples’ life. [7] For example, the heroes have created brilliant technological changes for families, they have become mentors in most case to younger children and adults, and they have become life savers to at risk teens and youths. Patel explains the impact and the damages done to her: “I flew up about 12 feet," Patel said. "And then he pinned me between his car and a metal railing, and that's what smashed my leg and my foot"(Qtd. Torgan), this would forever impact her life due to the extensive damage done to Patel’s leg which was later amputated. [2] Patel did not let this traumatic experience get the best of her; she went on to finish school and became a wife and mother. This experience of impeccable strong will and determination has helped Patel to become a mentor to many children and adults that are amputees. Patel helps to inform people of beneficial programs that can help them to receive their prosthetic limbs for a relatively low price if any. Maddox saw that there was a major problem with the youth being arrested and killed from this neighborhood, so the decision to build and run an after-school program for the youth of this neighborhood was very important for her. This after-school program would provide an escape from the everyday struggles these kids would go through. Maddox also wanted the youth to know that the police were not against them but there for them: I think there are a lot of misconceptions about police officers—that they're not fair, that they are the authority figure that doesn't care about the individual. That's not true of most officers. There are many of us in uniform who do care about the communities we police. But most of the time, once an individual sees someone in uniform, they kind of discard who the person is inside and make assumptions. (Qtd.
