During the Penn State child rape scandal, Jerry Sandusky had been accused of having sexual relations by force with athletes at the college. Further documentation shows that Sandusky had not only one sexual relations with a student; but with “10 boys in a period of 15 years. “(Huffington Post) The classification of crimes that Jerry Sandusky committed is legally defined as “mala in se.” During the first apparent observation of abuse occurring at the school, Michael McQueary, a former assistant coach for Penn State, reported the descry to Joe Paterno; whom then reported the accusation to school officials.
The Penn State scandal involved more than just the individual committing the crimes. Many of the university’s officials were at fault for not reporting the alleged crimes to the Board of Trustees or Pennsylvania police. This type of behavior shows how the culture was a clan style and more of a family characteristics of protecting their own (Brumfield, 2012). Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, was with the university for almost forty years and was admired as an upstanding citizen. He was the organizer of a charity call The Second Mile, which assisted disadvantage youth.
They find valuable information from doing this. When Clinton is asked about the relationship he simply tells everyone that he never did anything with Monica Lewinsky, but when he is asked about the relationship in front of the grand jury he says it was true. With Clinton previously lying about his relationship he got impeached. The House impeached Clinton on a vote of 258 to 176. Clinton violated 4 articles that he was impeached
Jerry Sandusky was an assistant football coach at Penn State University from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. He was well respected and even founded a charity organization for disadvantaged youth. After his retirement, he was still frequently on campus due to his status as an esteemed coach and professor emeritus. During his 30 year tenure at Penn State and thereafter in his retirement, Sandusky was involved in several incidents of lascivious behavior with minors.
During the 1992 primaries, Clinton was faced with an alleged affair with a nightclub singer named Gennifer Flowers. Clinton bounced back dramatically from the scandal and continued his successful career; and In 1992 Clinton won the presidential election over Bush. Also, Clinton faced several foreign affair issues during his presidency, primarily in the African countries of Rwanda and Somalia. These affairs were similar to Nixon's issues in that the American public scrutinized the issues and Americas reason for involvement. Clinton’s highly successful career, however, would come crashing down similar to Nixon's Watergate
It is October 31, 2005. This is the day Teresa Halbach went missing. The disappearance of Teresa Halbach marked the beginning of a long and controversial conviction of both Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey. Although the guilt or innocence of the two is still a hot topic, one must understand the criminal investigation that occurred. Knowing what steps investigators took and how they conducted each method is important to understand because this is what lead investigators to Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.
I do agree with the sentence imposed on Jerry Sandusky, just like I believe most people who followed this trial did. He will most likely end up not making it out of prison, the judge made this decision for many reasons. Sentencing is one of the most difficult jobs of the judge, seeing as the a judge cannot just give out any sentence he must abide by guidelines and stipulations (Bohm & Haley, 2014). During this trial Jerry Sandusky was sentenced to more than 30 years but not more than 60 (UPI Newstrack, 2012). This sentencing was efficient for a multitude of reasons, even though he could have been given more time, and it is explained by the judge that he could have done so.
In 1974 the house judiciary committee recommended Articles of impeachment of President Nixon during the water gates scandal. The water gates scandal was a major political scandal that occurred in the United States in the 1970s, following a break in at the DNC headquarters at water gate office in Washington D.C. and President Nixon’s administration tried to cover it up. On July 25, 1974 Barbara Jordan gave a speech on the impeachment of President Nixon during the impeachment hearing. She gave a strong passionate and well-rounded speech.
In general I would say Richard Nixon was a fairly decent president. During a time where there were many protests amongst the American public (especially the youth) against the troops in Vietnam, Nixon was able to pull the troops out of the war. Nixon also reduced the tensions with the Soviet Union, and helped China join the United Nations. He also helped decrease the amount of racial discrimination by segregating schools in the south. It is a shame though, that those achievements of his are not acknowledged because of the Watergate Scandal.
United States v. Nixon and Clinton v. Jones should have had the same outcome from the Supreme Court. Both, former President 's violated the law and wanted to use presidential privileges to dismiss their cases. In the United States v. Nixon, the Court had the right to order the President to relinquish the tapes to Congress to use as evidence for the trial against the seven members held accountable. Those accused were owed a duty by the Court to be given a fair and speedy trial. In the Clinton v. Jones case, the Court should have not granted the former President Clinton immunity because the general public needs to realize that not even the President can violate the law and get away with it.
Most say Richard Nixon is one of the most interesting political figures of the 20th century. Nixon began his long political career in 1947 when he was elected to the House of Representatives. During the course of his presidential campaign, Senator George McGovern had complained about the various number of “dirty tricks” performed by members of the Nixon administration during the campaign. Nixon resulted in ordering aides to harass Democratic party leaders. The Attorney General Mitchell would later call these “dirty tricks” the “White House horrors.”
Conclusion Sixty-nine political aides from President Nixon’s administration were charged with federal crimes such as obstruction of justice and abuse of power, just to name a few. Forty-eight of these individuals were found guilty. It was not until Gerald Ford was sworn in as the 38th President of the United States that Richard Nixon was granted a “full, free and absolute pardon” (The Washington Post) for any and all of his crimes that violated the Constitution of America. This granted pardon was the most controversial component of the Watergate scandal.
On July 17, 1972, the Watergate hotel, the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, was broken into by five men. After being caught, it was found that these men carried top of the line surveillance equipment. It was also found that these men had ties to the committee to re-elect Nixon as President of the United States, and this discovery eventually led to the ironic impeachment of President Nixon. Although the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the break-in, it was Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, two common reporters from the Washington Post, who cracked this case wide open. This team, nicknamed Woodstein, went above and beyond, not only covering the break in, but traced why it occurred all the way up to the white house.
Within the following cases, were any of the actions grounds for impeachment? Firstly, Richard Nixon who, spied on the Democratic National Headquarters and went to great means to cover it up. Next, Warren Harding for taking bribes and giving out government oil and Ulysses Grant for illegally giving his friends and others discounts on stock. Lastly, Gerald Ford for pardoning Nixon was grounds for impeachment.
Imagine a monster, but not just any monster, a human monster. With legs and arms, who can walk and talk just like a normal human (because it is human). Or at least made out of dead human body parts. Living and breathing by having rotting skin and recycled lungs. Terrifying, right?
