Monotheism versus Polytheism
A religion is a system of beliefs that is adhered by a group of people. There are countless different religions, each of which have a diverse set of beliefs. The beliefs are about the whole world, the population living in it, about how they have evolved and what exactly is their purpose. These beliefs are often related to exceptional beings such as God or a number of gods. This is called Theism, the belief in one or more Gods. They are also of an opinion that the spirit of each person should be towards being good, truthful and dutiful. This is called eternal spirituality.

Monotheism is the belief that there is only one supreme power i.e. only one god exists. Judaism, Islam, Sikhism are some of the modern day religions that follow monotheism.
Whereas Polytheism is the belief that more than one God exists which are generally viewed as multiple gods and goddesses. Ancient Greek religion and Hinduism are some examples of polytheistic religions.
Monotheism
Monotheism insists on worshipping only one God, that too in a very specific way. Those who deviate from this should be punished, tortured or even killed. Due to its restrictive way of worshipping only one God, monotheism has encouraged much brutality and hatred.
Monotheism exists in many different forms. Such as:
1. Strong Monotheism: Belief in one God only and no other supernatural things.
2. Weak Monotheism: Belief in one God but also belief in other supernatural things.
3. Pure Monotheism: Belief that God is one basically (intrinsically) and one superficial (extrinsically).
4. Limited Monotheism: Belief that God is more than one intrinsically but one
