Moral Courage - Colin Kaepernick The Oxford Dictionary definition of moral courage reads “the kind courage which enables a person to remain firm in the face of odium or contempt, rather than depart from what he or she deems the right course” (1). This definition is what I think describes Colin Kaepernick perfectly, demonstrating how Kaepernick exerts moral courage by standing up for injustice in a peaceful way. Kaepernick’s story can be connected to the moral courage exerted by the Jews during the holocaust. Finally, Kaepernick’s story touched me personally by exhibiting how to stand up for injustice. “The Jews belief does not come or go, for it does not rely on circumstances or external factors. It is built-in.” (Cotlar 1). What this quote is describing is that the Jewish people, despite feeling endless pain and punishment, but at no time diminished in their belief in God. Of course not all Jews stayed strong, but the majority did not ever leave God even in the face of death. “If (Colin) Kaepernick cared about black lives he would be in Chicago telling those primates to stop killing each other” (Armour 1). This is an email Kaepernick received from an angry “fan” who saw him kneeling for the national anthem. Despite gaining many more emails just like that racist and distasteful one, and on top of that getting released and pretty much exiled from the NFL (Branch 1) Kaepernick has not in any way wavered and standing up from the injustice laid out to African Americans. Even though the holocaust took lives and inflicted physical and mental pain on the Jewish people it relates to Kaepernick’s story in the way that neither the Jewish people or Kaepernick at no time wavered from what they believed in no matter what circumstances may
