The Bible is filled with great men and women that followed God’s commands and requests. A Hebrew prophet, teacher, and leader that showed great promise in the eyes of God is Moses.

In the bible it states that Moses’ parents came from the tribe of Levi, one of the Hebrew groups in Egypt. At this point in time, Hebrew had no relation to race or ethnicity ,but it was a group of people that made their living by hiring themselves out for services. Now for an unknown reason, the pharaoh disliked the Hebrew people ,and he claimed they were a threat to himself and his people. The pharaoh took Moses in as his own child ,but there is not much information about Moses’ childhood. By his later accomplishments in his life, we see that he had some control in religious, civil, and military matters. Moses also gained knowledge of the most liffe in the ancient Near East because of his contact with other nations through Egypt.

During Moses’ education he somehow came to the conclusion that he was Hebrew ,so he went to tour his people. It was during this visit that Moses realized the oppressive measures that his people labored. The Hebrews were being beaten to death in front of Moses’ eyes ,and he could no longer control his sense of justice. Moses killed one of the Egyptian overlords after making sure no one was in sight to witness.

Moses’ feeling of victory diminished the next day as the Hebrew people knew of his sinful act on the overlord. He was quick to realize that soon Pharaoh would have knowledge of this incident ,so Moses fled to Midian. One day in Midian, Moses was resting at a well when a Midianite priest, Jethro, and his seven daughters came to retrieve water ,but other shepherds drove the girls away in order to water their flocks. While searching another day, Moses reached the base of a mountain ,and he was immediately drawn to a flaming bush. The strange thing about this bush was that it was not being consumed ,so Moses began to move closer in order to investigate. He was suddenly told to stay back and to take his sandals off, for Moses was standing on holy ground. God spoke to Moses calling him to deliver the Hebrew people from Egypt ,but Moses began doubt his qualifications to do this out of fear.
