Tangerine Constructed Response In the book “Tangerine” the main character, Paul Fisher, shares many differences and similarities to his mother, Mrs. Fisher. They sometimes show a different way of looking at things and they, at times, share the same reaction. An example of a difference would be, “Today she said, “Look at the mailbox on that Tudor. That’s not a Tudor-style mailbox.”
In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, Erik Fisher is introduced as the football star and golden boy. Though later in the story, his callous and manipulative personality is uncovered. For example, Erik's bad behavior began around elementary school when he pinned down his brother Paul while his friend Vincent Castor spray painted his eyes. In addition, it seems that Erik's bad behavior started when he was a child and grew for the worse as he became older. Erik also has been using other people to do his dirty work since he was young.

Vahan, the main character in Forgotten Fire, written by Adam Bagdasarian, perspective on home changes a lot during the book. In the beginning of the book Vahan is a wealthy, soft, and spoiled kid.
Into The Wild was a tremendous story which Shaun Callarman did not have many positive things to say about Chris McCandless, the main character. He went on this adventure to find out what life is all about in his own eyes. He wanted to see how different living in the wild really was compared to society because he was not satisfied with his living arrangements and household. Shaun’s quote says that he thinks “Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness.
Paul Fisher is the protagonist of the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor. But his character changes throughout the book. Different events occur that change him, like when he found out the truth about how he actually became blind. At the beginning of the story, Paul was insecure and weak, but after overcoming many obstacles, he is strong and confident.
The book Mosquitoland is about a troublesome young teenage girl who has a lot of family issues and was written by David Arnold. It was written in first person point of view by a sixteen year old named Mary Iris Malone or Mim Malone for short. The book starts off with Mary living with her father and new stepmother after her parent’s divorce. As a teenager, these major life changes do affect your behavior and emotions big time! Shortly after her parents split, Mim finds out that her mother is sick.
In the story, “House of the Scorpions”, by Nancy Farmer, The main character is Matt, although he gets pushed around a lot by people. The main setting is Opium and Aztlan. In the beginning of the story, Matt is made as a clone in a Lab. The main problem/Conflict we find in the story is that people don’t find Matt to be a person. They think he is a beast because he is a clone of El Patron, also known as the druglord.
The upbringing of a child contains many factors, many of which correlate to where a child grows up. The people, culture, and experiences of someone’s childhood are the greatest determining factor for what kind of person they will become. So how does the nature and nurture of one’s upbringing impact the decisions that they make, and their life in general? Author Wes Moore explores this question in his memoir, The Other Wes Moore, as it relates to two lives in particular. Moore main purpose in this book is to explore the overarching impact that a collection of expectations and decisions, not always one’s own, can have on someone’s life.
The Lord Of The Flies by William Golding is a book about a plane full of boys crashing on an island. The boys are by themselves no adults so they have to survive on their own and establish their own government. Piggy is one of the first characters we meet as a boy with poor eyesight, a weight problem and asthma so the readers already like him even if no one else likes him. Piggy is the closest thing the boys have to an adult on the island. Throughout the story Piggy embraces the character traits of being intellectually intelligent, Mature and loyal.

Patricia McCormick wrote Sold about a young girl who used to go to school like a regular kid like everyone else then she was sold to a Happiness House where she was working as a sex slave to get money for Mumtaz and also her way out back home. The story was a coming to age story which made her grow up too fast with other girls used as prostitutes with no way out . Some may believe that this novel was to entertain the audience or persuade the reader to be more active or vigilant about global issues around the world .
Can mere mortals with hold magical abilities? In the Lake of The Woods, a mystery war novel written by Tim O’Brien, whose major theme is that not every problem has a solution, but may present a different outlook on the problem and aspects surrounding it. The main character, John Wade, uses magic to hide his manipulation and deception in order to put on a smiling face on a daily basis. As a result of wanting to carry on his deceit, he ventures into the political world, while putting his wife,Kathy Wade, through misery. Kathy hated the political life style and gatherings, in this degree she was secretly relieved when he was unable to become a U.S. Senator.
In the midst of the 1950 's, the Cold War begins. While in that period, William Golding creates Lord of the Flies published in 1954. This is a novel about young school boys crash landing on an island. The boys on the island let the fear of something inside of them be in control. In the story, there are lots of events that take place and characters that take part.
Home is where the heart is, but what if home is no longer safe? Joyce Carol Oates explores this concept in her 1966 short story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been”. On surface level, this story appears to discuss a rebellious young girl named Connie and her confrontation with Arnold Friend, a stalker. The ending leaves the reader to assume that Arnold Friend plans to sexually assault the young girl.

Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, the founder of my high school had once made a very powerful statement - “Youth are not useless, but they are used less.” This statement has been having a resonating impact on me since high school. During my senior year at NIT Trichy, I had conceptualized the idea of a “Youth Summit” that would allow young engineers to discuss and ideate on progressive themes.
