5.1 What has motivated you to seek to advance your education? (150 words)
Knowledge is power. I believe that education is indeed the most powerful weapon any person can use to bring about change. When I graduated from faculty of architecture and entered the job market, I was confronted by the huge gap between education and employment in Sudan. It had been challenging for me to fill in this gap throughout the first years of my career. I also learned that education is influential when it comes to career development. Therefore, I am constantly motivated to advance my education and equip myself with practical skills that I can apply to my professional life. UMDT is interactive; participants will learn through innovative teaching methods. My goal is to deepen my knowledge of urban management and development theories, gain skills and develop a network that will help me grow as a community builder and accordingly take that my social ventures beyond good intentions.

My greatest ambition is to embody the power of design and construction to foster social change across Sudan through working with vulnerable communities on plans and projects that promote and protect human rights by means of design, advocacy and building. I want to become an activist architect who does not use words, but rather design to promote social justice. Throughout the course, I will strengthen my understanding of urban areas so to be able to analyse urban policies, governance and planning structures with awareness of their physical impact on city formation. I will then be able to adopt an effective multi-stakeholder formulation and action planning approach.
