From our previous film showing, High Noon, we got a taste of how the Western genre portrayed Chicano/a characters. The late 1970’s saw a decline of the western, and “with the decline of the filmic western came the rise of the urban violence film” (Cortés 134). The 1980’s and 90’s saw film after film released portraying gang violence, and the Latino gang film was a “natural crossroads for sex, violence, and ethnicity” (Cortés 135). Some see these Latino gang members “as updated, modern variants of the Mexican bandit type” (Treviño). 1993 brought us the film Mi Vida Loca, which shows us the life of teenage Chicano/a gang members living in Echo Park, focused on the character known as Sad Girl.
On Stereotypes and Their Consumption Avenue Q, a Broadway production, has been both appraised and scrutinized for its brash sense of humor. The musical addresses the world from a cynical viewpoint in a way that parodies the sense of wonder and happiness that comes with many children's programs such as Sesame Street, however a few have questioned if it’s direct approach to today’s issues have gone too far, in particular: racism. “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist” is perhaps the shows most well known number, and has been laughed at time and time again for its blatant stating of racist tendencies that most tend to avoid, while others find it too blunt and simply wrong on its approach to race. One such person is the author of a critique of the show, Stephen Quigley. Quigley’s review of the production questions whether or not that particular number can really be called funny, especially when

Society is built upon a grand scale of assumptions and misunderstandings, all of which tend to lead us in a path for the worst. There is, however, a remedy for our seemingly infinite list of problems that lead us to war, hate, and unrest. Unfortunately, this remedy is not very likely to be found because we have not been looking in the right places, which happen to be right beneath our noses. You see, we as a society have spent our lives writing books, directing movies, and painting murals, and yet we have overlooked our own genius; Footloose, The Breakfast Club, and Dirty Dancing. These three movies all share a common thread, and it’s not their epic soundtracks and classic ending scenes.
Those Who Don't is about the stereotypes about certain neighborhoods. The neighborhood around mango street is kind of like a latino "hood" area. She talks a lot about how people are typically scared to be around their neighborhood that bad things will happen. That everyone who lives in not so nice neighborhoods is poor and unsuccessful. My mother and I have had a few conversations about our own neighborhood.
Stereotypes rampant in today’s society. They are implanted in one’s mind from a young age and learnt from school, media, friends or family. Moreover, the unique qualities of a person which can be beneficial for society can be hidden due to stereotypes. As a result, society can undermine a person by judging that judging that person based on the general idea it has about that person’s age, race, personality and/or financial status. Consequently, stereotypes have been a common topic that many authors have used in their books, with one such book being John Ball’s

It was a rainy day. Unlike the previous observation, I did not get the fun ride with my professor. I had to catch the Uber and I could arrive at school by 8. I walked into the classroom and I could meet Ms. B’s class students, Ms. B and two of teachers aids. All students were eating something in class for their breakfast including two of teacher assistants.
On September 20, 1984, the Cosby Show made airways and forever changed the general population views on gender roles and race on television. Shows in the 1980s and 1970s were still perpetuated outdated gender stereotypes and televise them, for the American audience to perceive as “normal”. The Cosby Show went against the typical gender and racial stereotypes of African Americans on television. The episode “Back to school”, The school season has begun and each of the children is having a different perspective on the school they attended.
The label of white trash even existing is seen to be appalling because of the former notion of white citizens being the alphas and that angered other White Americans(Eastman & Schrock pg 207). Stereotypes were and are a problem but Southern Rock & Roll musicians embraced theirs and appropriated with it because of capitalism. While no one deserves to be put into a category based on prejudice, White Americans made their stereotypes a positive while minorities struggled and still continue to struggle everyday due to stigmas placed on them. Different classes of White Americans were discriminatory against one another. If you were to portray this white trash image, you’d go against the grain so to speak and denounce their privilege.
Texas Stereotypes Texas is well known for a lot of things, to being one of the biggest states in the US to JFK Assassination. Many people believe that Texas is probably one of the violent states because of many people owning guns and many prisoners being on death row. Numerous individuals has came up with a lot of stereotype for Texas and Texans. One of the most famous and favorable stereotypes are that Texas consist of many cowboys and cowgirls. Yes many of men and women are but, little do they know that more than 85% of the Texas population lives in urban areas.
Dr.Pepper is a better soda brand than Coca Cola, because it has less caffeine and better flavors than Coke. Some people agree that Dr.Pepper has more sugar and doesn’t taste nothing like Coke. While others disagree that Coca Cola is a better Beverage. Because if you drank Dr.Pepper you can easily taste a bit of cherry in your mouth having your mouth smell like cherries. According to Debate.org an Investigator RacH3ll3 had mention that Dr.Pepper is a better drink stated,” Dr. Pepper taste better also it has less acid than coca cola.
Lily Wong, in her article about food, entitled “Eating the Hyphen,” states, “Perhaps this combination (ketchup and dumplings) has something to do with the fact that since both my parents grew up in the States, we’ve embraced many American traditions while abandoning or significantly modifying many Chinese ones” (95). Wong expresses how being a Chinese American has affected her life in a positive way. Wong eats some of her food Americanized, with ketchup, but also eats food that the majority of American’s would not touch (i.e. jellyfish and sea cucumber). Comparatively, Wong eats dumplings (which derive from the Chinese culture) with a fork, knife, and ketchup (which are all culturally American). Geeta Kothari, who wrote the article, If You Are What You Eat, Then What Am I?
College students need to be fed with the right foods and nutrients. Imagine being hungry and having tons of homework to do or have to study for a major exam, it would be pretty hard. It would almost feel impossible to get focused and actually complete your homework assignment or finish studying for that test. You also won’t have a lot of energy because you’re body won’t have the right foods to help you maintain that positive energy. So many college students live off Ramen and honestly it’s not very good for you.
