Argumentative Essay: Barn Burning Abuse is seen in many households, a lot of the time it’s the parents, but it could be anybody and can be seen anywhere. We have all been in some kind of abuse. I have been personally abused in many ways by my father. In the story Barn Burning by William Faulkner a father (mr. Snopes) is very abusive to his child, wife, animals, ect. I will be showing you all the types of abuse that Mr. Snopes used in the story. Mr. Snopes used many types of abuse. I will first address Physical Abuse and how Mr. Snopes used it toward the family. Snopes was abusive in many different ways, I will be using life skills International, Power and Control: Abusive Behaviors. It tells us that Physical Abuse is the following: grabbing, hitting, kicking, restraining, shoving, slapping, pushing, and beating. Mr. Snopes did all of those things. Another form of abuse is Emotional Abuse which is: mind games; extreme controlling behaviors; conditional love; making the person feel bad about themselves/ herself; humiliating him/her; making her feel guilty. Mr. Snopes uses all of these forms of Emotional Abuse. There are many types of abuse he uses like Economic Abuse in the form of: taking her money/ valuables; not letting him/ her know about the family income; Mr. Snopes used Intimidation Abuse and he used it in these ways: making him / her afraid by using looks, actions, gestures; destroying her property; abusing pets. Mr. Snopes uses isolation by; limiting his/her outside involvement; controlling what he she does, who he/she sees and talks to, where he/ she goes.male privilege is displayed also: treating like a servant and making every decision. A very common abuse is threats: making threats to him/her to make them do illegal things. The final type of abuse that I will be talking about is responsibility abuse and is shown as: making the victim responsible for everything in life, bills, parenting, jobs around the house, things the abuser is meant to be responsible
