In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson, Mr. Utterson is a man that is full of surprises. Stevenson introduces Utterson as a, “scanty, lean, long, and dreary man with a ‘rugged countenance’ (1). By this description,one can assume that Mr. Utterson is a grumpy man without much emotion, old with age, and incapable of socializing with people with much respect. With a dark and dreary appearance, Mr Utterson closely resembles Mr. Scrooge from Charles Dickens' novel, A Christmas Carol. However, this complexion is a misconception.
