The Mrs. De Winters Imagine marrying a wealthy man that has recently lost his wife and moving into the same house that they shared together. Now imagine being constantly compared to her know matter the circumstance. In the novel Rebecca, author Daphne du Maurier that is exactly what happened. The Narrator who we call the new Mrs. De Winter is almost always being compared to Rebecca who is the late Mrs. De Winter. They were both two totally different people who many differences such as their relationship with Maxim, their appearances, even their personalities where different. There are so many differences between Maxim’s relationship with Rebecca and his current relationship with his second wife, the new Mrs. De Winter also known as the stories narrator. The biggest similarity was the secrets that were kept in both of the relationships. In the first marriage the secrets were Rebecca’s and in the second one the secrets were Mr. De Winters or aka Maxim. The major difference between the two marriages is that while Rebecca was a very wicked and disloyal woman who did care for Maxim and cheated on with her own cousin Favell, his second wife loved him sincerely and was faithful to him and always trying to please him. …show more content…

Rebecca was known to be a beautiful woman with long dark hair and wears elegant clothes. She was always noticed when she walking in to the room as if all eyes were on her. The narrator however, is a young twenty one year old who has lighter colored hair and dresses more like a school girl as she stated about herself (pg62). The new Mrs. De Winter normally wears average clothes and blends in with the crowd. In the novel she does end up wearing the same dress Rebecca did for the costume ball but was trick into wearing in by Mrs. Danvers
