In the film Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakspere, the relationships between characters Beatrice and Benedick and Hero and Claudio were very different in each of their own ways. Their perspectives on love were the complete opposites of each other's. Both of the couples in the film would define love as two completely different things. Hero and Claudio would describe love as something that comes to you. They fell in love with each other at first sight, and couldn’t stop thinking about each other. Right after meeting Hero, Claudio is convinced that he is in love with her, and will marry her. Beatrice and Benedick, however, would describe love as something that doesn’t interest them at all. Because Claudio believes love is something that will come to you, he truly believed that he and Hero fell in love when they first met. Almost immediately after meeting, Claduio announces to his close friends that he is in love with Hero, and will ask for her hand in marriage. Beatrice and Benedick at first don’t believe in love, so to convince themselves that they are not in love, they make fun of and mock each other. Beatrice and Benedick are secretly in love with each other, but they do not think that their feelings are shared. This is until Beatrice overhears Hero and Ursula talking about how much Benedick loves her, and when Benedick overhears a conversation between Don Pedro, Claudio, and Leonato talking about Beatrice’s love for him. Hero and Claudio both loved each other at first sight, and Beatrice and Benedick had an unspoken love that was broken because their friends showed them their real feelings for each other.
