1. A Hero is someone who helps others at his/her own expense meaning that they go out of their way, or they sacrifice something of their own for the sole reason of helping others. Characteristics of heroes are caring, sympathetic, honorable, and selfless.
2. Heroes originally meant a worrier of great ability, skilled fighters, honorable, courageous. This came originally from Homer and his writings. In then went to mean a place between a deity and a mortal such as a child with one mortal parent and one immortal parent.

It changed from just being a fighter and gaining glory from succeeding in war to being more broad then that saying that you don’t need to be a fighter to be a hero you can just help the community in other ways so they look up to you.
5. Suffering became a heroic idea because you need to be strong to overcome suffering and it is heroic to triumph over this suffering because it is difficult and if you suffer and then get past it shows strength and courage and persistence which are all characteristics of heroes.
6. No it seems that the idea of heroes have been in all different cultures around the world at different times not just western cultures although they have slightly different meanings and characterizes.
7. Hero changed to be that the people didn’t have to be special in any regard they could just be ordinary people not above mortals but mortal themselves, they just needed to be focused in a story and accomplish heroic tasks. The ideas that anyone could be a hero emerged.

Courage is a main part of heroism and its original definition was manliness therefore that only applied to men, also when heroism meant fighting in a war to help the country it only applied to men because woman could not fight in the war. But the term evolved to mean helping in the community and not just with war so then it could be applied to woman as well so there were some woman
