Deceiving For Love

When people think of trickery they think of a bad consequence, but it can also be used to make people fall in love. In the book “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, it revolves around many tricks played on the characters of the play. Some of the tricks done in the play led to everybody being happy and making a few people fall in love. On the other hand, though there was also a mischievous trick done by the villainous men of the story which caused the main characters a lot of unhappiness.

One of the first deceptions done in the play is done on Benedick and Beatrice and it was done by their friends and family to get them to fall in love with each other. What they do to trick them is they get Leonato, Claudio and Don Pedro first to speak out loud in front of Benedick about how they heard Beatrice supposedly loves him. The same was done to Beatrice, except that they had Hero and her maid speak about how Benedick supposedly loves her. The plan was to tell everyone that Hero died to make them feel bad for her and listen to reason. One way Leonato tells Claudio, Hero is dead when he says, “ And she lies buried with her ancestors, o, in a tomb where never scandal slept, save this of hers, framed by thy villainy” (5.1.77-79). In this quote, Leonato tries to tell Claudio that Hero was framed and that he did wrong by disrespecting her in the wedding ceremony. Claudio refuses to believe in Leonato though. Later on though he finds out that Hero is innocent and begins to regret disrespecting the love of his life. Then it is revealed to him that Hero was faking her own death. In the end, these courses of events led to every couple to forgiveness, but most importantly, it led them to
