Imagine being the highest ranking official in the most rewarding nation in the world. How did you get there? How is it possible you’re still on the top? Muhammad Ali had a very promising life to put in the record books. Throughout his life, he had to show major strands of courage. Even though becoming an Olympic gold medalist in 1960 and the heavyweight boxing champ in 1964, he still had to show courage in and outside the ring. This movement helped change the segregated south.
1964 the year of the black bull, as “www.archives.gov” claimes, (Congress passed Public Law 88-352). In 1964, the Civil Rights Acts was established. This ended segregation in public places and banned discrimination on race, color, religion, and sex. During this time Ali was hardly affected as much as other African American were, but he felt the need to fight for his people. In this fight he used his celebrity status to speak out for others who couldn’t. With his greatness in the ring it helped out the hope of maybe African American will continue fighting. The fight for the title raised the sudden interest for the black community to rise up.
Most people believed that his close friendship with Malcolm X, another civil rights activist, made Ali join the nation of Islam. According to “ aliandcivilrights.weebly.com”, “the Nation of Islam urged blacks not to cooperate with the Mass Civil Rights movement and not to coalesce with their white suppressers”, The Nation of Islam brought together numbers of blacks together to move up in the civil rights movement and fight against white race.
