Ali's Outreach On a Global Scale Throughout his career, his time after boxing and after his passing, a hallmark of Muhammad Ali and his message was community outreach on a local, national and eventually global stage. Whether it was doctors working in his name to improve upon care for Parkinson's patients or finding resolution to thee wars and issues that affect people the world over, Ali and general sense of generosity has remained as strong as it was in the 60's and beyond. Ali has transcended the borders, barriers and bindings that would hold down a person of color in order to show the world that though the power of generosity and compassion, these limitations are meaningless and nonexistent. One of Ali's most prominent moments on the world stage was when he took a stance against Apartheid in South Africa. Apartheid, meaning “the state of being apart” in the Afrikaans language, was the state enforced and systematic segregation of white and black citizens in South Africa between 1948 and 1994. Though racial segregation had been present in South Africa since colonial times, when either the Dutch or the British empires were in control. Similar to Jim Crow laws in the southern United States, Apartheid was put in place to legally limit the opportunities and mobility blacks had access too, thus ensuring the the white minority of the country had stayed in control. …show more content…
Seeking a large platform to express his opinions on the matter, he had visited the United Nation on April 4, 1978. He was attending a press conference with the Chairman UN Special Committee against Apartheid “The personality of a person, the ways of a person, the thoughts, the deeds, the actions is all based around his heart.” Ali had stated to the crowd, trying to explain how a man should be judged by his actions, not by his skin
