Take home Test: Music Appreciation
1. Compare and Contrast the music of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Period.
The baroque sound is very strict on Tempo and articulations. In Baroque musical works each note must be played clearly. Baroque music is often Polyphonic, which explains why they have so many keyboard instruments. Unlike most Classical and Romantic musical works, the baroque period hardly uses any pedals. Baroque music has somewhat of a hard strong sound to it.
Classical music doesn’t have such as a hard sound like baroque music. But both musical periods, classical and baroque, are the exact same way when it comes to strict tempos and dynamics. Both Baroque and Classical music has much simpler melodies and sounds. Also Classical has no voice parts.
The Romantic Period was more emotional and expressive. The musical works of this period uses a lot more of tempo rubato in piano. Romatic period dramatically expanded the size of orchestra, and the loudness and diversity of instruments. The romantic sound was much more of a magical sound rather than hard and aggressive sound.

The idea of this type of orchestra kept going on in to the classical and romantic period.in the early part of the 18th century, Rameau introduced passages on the flutes, oboes and bassoons which opened the pat to coloristic of orchestra.in the classical era, the strings gained freedom for effect, they would change rhythmic patterns, pizzicato, tremolo and double stopping. In the romantic period they nearly added 100 players’ poor more to the orchestra. They way that the periods had set up the orchestra it nearly changed the music. You can’t play a song and only 9use some instruments the composers at this time had to use all of the musical instruments rom the symphony and use them properly thus caused
