Music, for many, is a form of communication that cannot otherwise be expressed through a simple word or gesture. In “The Myth of Music” by Rachel M. Harper, the speaker conveys the closeness and authority she feels over music in her life, specifically in terms of the relationship she has with her family, by using (metaphorical) diction and shift in tone, effectively relaying the shield she has put up to protect personal experiences through musical memories. Harper conveys the fact that everyone has been intertwined with music throughout their entire life whether they realize it or not. Music has the unique ability to create peace in a person’s life despite the difficulties surrounding them, and to bring a constant reminder of who they are as a person.
The writer’s point that music has the power to shape the notions and ideas of a generation is accurate in the sense that our generation is addicted to music and the beats and lyrics of music have an effect over the minds of the listeners (Williams, Pocock and Bridge). Therefore, if meaningful lyrics and composed by the musicians, their songs would leave a powerful effect on the minds of the song listeners leading to motivating rallies and movements. I think that the insight stated that by the writer in the article is greatly compassionate. Especially as she has called attention to the importance of moral content of music. This is often ignored; in our times of the cult of the artist as self-indulgent genius.

Albert Einstein declared, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician.” Music is more than something that is just pleasing to the ears, or an entertainment, but it is a prodigious art. It is a platform for human’s creativity and for the birth of creative human’s expressions. Music generally associates with the unlimited brush strokes of emotions; happiness, sadness, fear, and anger. Music brings people together, but it is the lyrics that free the souls.
These factors, unique to each of us, make us connect to music in our own ways. Concurrently, we are also all connected by our cultures and by the world as a collective human species. Music often times brings us together but can simultaneously touch us all in diverse ways. Music can be encouraging. It can give you the sheer strength and determination to push forward through challenging moments.

The rhythm and mood of a song can influence the way they feel but the lyrics to a song can affect the way they think, behave, and how they feel. Lyrics are very important when it comes to music. When listening to a song you may go from having a terrible day but then a song comes on about being happy and you start to feel better and more joyful and without realizing it you have been affected by the lyrics of the song subconsciously.
Some have even told their life story through music. The definition of music is loosely defined through people, but the contribution of music plays a definite role in society. Music sometimes defines a whole cultural. The educators of music must not only wrap the concept music into a student’s learning experience, but they must show the relationship between music and life. What I want to get across is that music creates a way for someone to do things in a more positive and fun way. For example, when I was younger, I played basketball on a school team, and I would always be extremely nervous and anxious before a game. When we would start to warm up, they would start playing music like “We Will Rock You” by Queen and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. These songs are energetic and have so much passion behind their words that they make people excited and want to smile. After listening to these songs, it was like all my anxiety slipped away, and I felt free just to play and focus on myself and my team.
