Concert Report #1: Music Faculty Showcase The Music Faculty Showcase was a chance for majority of the musical faculty to showcase their musical abilities. Music performed was on no specific era or genre of music and mostly was comprised of solos and duets used to compliment and illustrate the musician’s talents and abilities. The concert overall was quite long lasting about two hours, but was quite entertaining. Majority of the instructors have quite a sense of humor, such as one of the musicians stopping his music when a women’s phone goes off. It was quite sensational and amusing. I will be discussing two particular pieces I found to be my favorite of the concert. The music includes: Muskrat Ramble written by Kid Ory and performed by a large bunch of the performers in the concert, including our own David Ballam, and Flight of the Bumblebee written by Nikolai …show more content…
The saxophone carried song was vivace with a fast and lively tune. Composed in the 20th century era of music, it was a huge hit being played by Louis Armstrong himself . Overall the tune was carried mostly by the brass instruments, mostly the cornet, trombone, and saxophone. Overall I loved the piece as it brought the crowd, including myself to life. The song was like a breath of fresh air! The people playing the music looked completely in sink and had amazing chemistry. Everyone playing had a huge smile on their face and looked comfortable playing around each other, which helped enhance the song, in my opinion. I view the song as mostly polyphonic with all the instruments complimenting and building on one another. The rhythm was complex and sounded like it was played completely in a major key. Lastly, this jazz piece showed how technical the musicians who played the piece were, as flaws would be easy to point out as it would interrupt the general flow of the music.
