Specific Purpose Statement: By the end of my speech the audience will able to understand the educational, creative, and lifelong benefits of music education.

Attention Getter: Having a history of music education in your life will make you smarter than everyone else.
Thesis Statement: Music education is not only fun but also adds many benefits to a person’s life; benefits that impact the educational, creative, and sociological aspects of life.

Music might be just a fun hobby for many out there but music education also holds many benefits, such as educational benefits.

A. The benefits of music education relating to literature and language
1. The Arts Education Partnership, a music education organization in the U.S., talks about in one of their articles titled “Music Matters” that music education helps in boosting a person’s skills in reading and in language.
2. The region of the brain that is in charge of verbal memory is developed through music education.
3. We learn about the diversity of others such as their language and culture through music education.
B. The benefits of music education relating to mathematics.
1. Such as boosting skills in English, music education helps in boosting skills in mathematics and helps in assessments. The advantage of this increases over time.
2. The part of the brain that is responsible for processing math are also used when learning music and strengthens that part of the brain.

Music education helps in creating originality and flexibility. In Jazz it is essential to have flexibility and learn to improvise. This helps people to reinvent, adapt and change to their surroundings such as the chords that are constantly changing in music.

III. Music education helps in improving the mental state of an individual

A. Prepared to succeed
1. With the benefits that we receive from music education it is to no surprise that we would feel more successful moving on in life. Students tend to feel more prepared to go into college than non-music students which gives them a boost in self-esteem.
B. Emotional aspects of music education
1. It is with no surprise that humans enjoy music in their lives and they feel good when surrounded by music or playing music.
2. Music can be used as a short-term solution for those who have depression and anxiety as this helps with soothing a person down and keeping a stable mental state.
C. Social acceptance
1. When taking a music class or being in a marching band we feel a sort of acceptance in the group since everyone in the group has a mutual interest. This gives the student a sense of self-esteem here as
